Are you looking for some great hotels in Trieste for your upcoming trip? Then you’ve landed on the right page! In this guide, I’ve compiled a list of the best accommodation options in town sorted by budget, plus some lodging ideas for families and holiday apartment rentals.

Located in the country’s easternmost corner, near the Slovenian and Croatian borders, the capital city of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region stands out from any other Italian city. Trieste has only been part of Italy since 1954, after centuries under the Austro-Hungarian Empire. This left an enduring mark on the region’s culture, architecture, language, and gastronomy, which is still evident – making Trieste a truly special city.

Today, this gorgeous port city on the Adriatic Sea is packed with beautiful heritage buildings, picturesque cafés, and elegant squares, including the biggest seafront piazza in Europe – Piazza Unità d’Italia. There are also cool caves to explore, mountain trails to hike and lovely beaches to relax on.

BEST Hotels in Trieste, Italy - Grand Canal - James Joyce BridgeWith such an abundance of things to see and do in Trieste, it has welcomed many illustrious visitors throughout history, including James Joyce. Whilst the city may not be as famous as Rome or Venice, its charm is undeniable and makes for a fabulous travel destination in Italy.

Here’s what we’ll cover. Click on any title to jump to each section:

HOTELS IN TRIESTE

Trieste has many wonderful hotels to suit every taste and need. Some operate in ancient buildings bursting with historic charm, while others offer hip contemporary design or a simpler, homey atmosphere. Most hotels are right in the city centre and provide easy access to the top sights in Trieste.

Below are my top picks for every budget, from upscale luxury to affordable lodging.

LUXURY HOTELS IN TRIESTE

Trieste has some excellent high-end hotels offering contemporary glamour in beautiful heritage buildings for travellers looking for a luxury gateway. The best ones are usually located in strategic spots which makes them the perfect base if you’re planning to do a lot of sightseeing while you’re in town.

DoubleTree by Hilton Trieste

Located in Piazza della Repubblica, inside a precious historic building from the early 1900s, the DoubleTree by Hilton Trieste is a luxury hotel oozing period charm. The renovation project has retained much of its original elements, including frescoed ceilings and the first elevator ever introduced in the city, pairing them with contemporary design pieces. Facilities include a wellness centre and a gym.

Slickly designed, all rooms and suites feature wooden floors, marble bathrooms, rich fabrics, and espresso machines. Stylish decor and tons of natural light complete the picture. There’s a fine dining restaurant that doubles as a breakfast room, while the Berlam Coffee Tea & Cocktail is open all day for a drink or a light bite in a chic ambience. At check-in, you’ll be greeted with the legendary DoubleTree chocolate chip cookie.

The 42 rooms and suites are the epitome of comfort and elegance, with period furniture, free minibar, Dr. Vranjes cosmetics, and 24-hour room service. Some offer staggering views of Piazza Unità d’Italia and the Gulf of Trieste.
